Terms of Service

Last updated: February 2026

Template, not legal advice: This document is a plain-English starting point. Have qualified legal counsel review and adapt it before relying on it in production.

1. The service

Can I Reverse Engineer It? ("the Service") is a searchable directory of illustrative engineering estimates: complexity scores, rough time-to-build estimates, suggested architecture and open-source alternatives for popular software. The content is conceptual and educational. It is not a set of verified reverse-engineering findings, and it does not describe the actual internals of any third-party product.

2. Acceptable use

The Service exists to support interoperability, open-source alternatives, security research and education. You agree not to use the Service, or any content from it, to:

  • facilitate piracy, circumvent software licenses, or infringe intellectual property;
  • distribute cracked binaries, stolen assets, credentials or other unlawful material;
  • violate the terms of service or acceptable-use policies of any third party; or
  • break any applicable law or regulation.

See our positioning & guardrails page for the fuller framing of what this project does and does not do.

3. Accounts

Some features require an account, created when you sign in with Google or with a one-time email code. You are responsible for the activity on your account and for keeping access to your sign-in method secure. You may request deletion of your account at any time (see our Privacy Policy).

4. Pro subscriptions & one-off unlocks

Premium teardowns can be unlocked with a Pro subscription or a one-off per-teardown purchase. Payments are processed by Lemon Squeezy, our merchant of record. Your purchase is also governed by Lemon Squeezy's own terms and privacy policy. Subscriptions renew until cancelled; you can manage or cancel from the customer portal. A one-off unlock grants permanent access to that single teardown only. Except where required by law, payments are non-refundable.

5. No warranty

The Service and all content are provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied. Estimates, scores and suggested architectures may be inaccurate or incomplete. You are responsible for independently verifying anything before you act on it, and for building original implementations that respect applicable licenses and terms.

6. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss arising from your use of — or inability to use — the Service. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot be excluded under applicable law.

7. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the Service after changes take effect means you accept the updated terms.
